24 Jun Major Housing and Infrastructure Investments Create New Opportunities Across Toronto
Toronto, ON – June 24, 2026
The housing and construction sector received significant news this week as all three levels of government announced a landmark agreement to reduce development charges in Toronto by up to 60 percent and invest up to $1.5 billion in housing-enabling infrastructure across the city.
These measures are expected to unlock more than 44,000 new housing units, reduce costs for builders and developers, and accelerate the delivery of much-needed housing throughout Toronto.
Key highlights include:
- Development charge reductions of up to 60 percent for many ownership and rental housing types, with reductions of 40 percent for one-bedroom and bachelor units.
- Approximately $83,000 in development charge savings for a new single or semi-detached home.
- Up to $1.5 billion in infrastructure funding to support transit, roads, water and wastewater systems, and other projects that will enable future growth and housing development.
- Full implementation of Ontario’s enhanced HST rebate program, providing substantial tax relief for eligible new home purchases and helping improve market conditions for both builders and purchasers.
These announcements represent one of the most significant housing affordability and growth initiatives in recent years and will create new opportunities for developers, builders, infrastructure contractors, consultants, and suppliers across the Greater Toronto Area.
